This pretty square pendant with geometric decoration is a traditional model of the Tuareg ethnic group of Northern Mali and Niger.
This model served as an amulet to its wearer since inside it could carry religious protection symbols and, even more anciently, animistic symbols for good luck or good health..

The engravings are handmade by an expert goldsmith hand, que, as usual in this type of pieces, leave your signature symbol on the back so it doesn't fall into oblivion.

The piece is set on a chain of small black glass beads of about 40 cm long but it is prepared with three holes of different thickness to fit a thicker chain or leather.

The material is called "Tuareg silver", a very low silver alloy but does not change color or rust.

We bought this nice piece in Addis Ababa a few years ago. Is antique, half of the 20th century and the story they told us is the following:
In East Ethiopia this type of pendant was given by the suitor to the girl he liked. The girls came to the market with this type of pendant on their clothes, in the hair or in the form of a necklace if it had "numerous" suitors and thus publicly demonstrated her beauty.

Aluminum is very recurring within Ethiopian jewelry, they used to melt the pans that came from Europe (Italia) to make beautiful pieces that do not rust or change color and that in turn are very light and comfortable to wear.

Surutia is the Swahili name for this type of necklace.. These metal coils are worn by Masai women ( Kenya, North Tanzania) when they have at least 1 circumcised son. It is a jewel that belongs to the family and that is passed from generation to generation.. The mother lends the jewel to her son for circumcision ceremonies and also at the time of his marriage.

The spirals are made of aluminum about 7.5cm in diameter. They are tied to the double necklace of multicolored glass beads.

This kind of Fulani jewelry was traditionally made in gold for the wealthy families to show their importance. .

Nowadays they make them of brass (bronce), using the same old techniques. It´s made out 5 pieces, 1 big piece of twisted brass leaf, 2 smaller pieces also in twisted brass and 2 brass threads doing the closing system.

Sometimes, after a long exposure to humidity weather, the brass gets matte color (many of our clients love it like that). In order to make it shine again just use lemon juice.

It´s light to wear and together with the earrings and bracelets (also in our store) you will have a beautiful outfit for a special event.

Los nudos son corredizos, por lo que se puede ajustar a cualquier medida, hombre o mujer (Tamaño máximo abertura 21-22cm de circunferencia).

Originally this necklace was part of the long earrings men tie on their heads; we transformed it to a necklace.
It is made of a leather string decorated with brass pieces, colored beads and cauris (african shells).

El uso de la técnica de la cera perdida es palpable en esta pieza.

El cordón de cuero tiene una medida de 72 cm de largo y está hecho a mano utilizando 24 hilos de cuero en su elaboración.

El Sol mide 8,5 cm in diameter ( 27 cm de circunferencia) and 0,5 cm de grosor.

Elegantes y ligeros, estos pendientes de "Plata Tuareg" son un modelo moderno hechos en Ouagadougou, Burkina faso, siguiendo la técnica tradicional de los Tuareg.

Los Wodaabi son una tribu nómada perteneciente al grupo étnico de los Fulani. El arte de la seducción juega un papel importante en su comunidad y para ello utilizan numerosos abalorios y bisutería que utilizan habitualmente.

Este tipo de pulseras son hechas en base a un tubo de plástico envuelto en piel y recubierto de pequeños aros de cobre y aluminio y se utilizan tanto de pulseras como tobilleras o brazaletes por encima del codo.

Por lo tanto son grandes, para muñecas de 21-22 cm de circunferencia.
