This cross model is known as a crescent by its semicircular form, But it is truly the gourfat symbol, one of the 22 Original Tuareg families.
Tuareg crosses were used initially to identify the wearer of the cross , as a passport, to original Touareg families. Each cross has a name that identifies ( Ingal, Agadez etc. ..). They symbolize the Southern Cross as a guide to the four cardinal points in the Sahara desert.
The material used for the manufacture of these crosses is called "Tuareg silver" of a mixture of silver and nikel. Do not get ugly with time.
The chain measures about 40cm long and is made up of small black glass beads.
The pendant measures 4 cm in diameter.
