Harar Ethiopia amulet necklace

We bought this original necklace in Harar, northeast of Ethiopia in the early 2000.
Its phallic shape served to keep sacred texts or amulets and were given at weddings for the protection and guidance of the bride.. Carries 7 hanging strips representing the days of the week.
Currently this tradition is in disuse and thus this type of necklace has almost become collector's items..

Lightweight white metal that will not discolor or rust with red resin beads.
